Yellow-wood's beautiful rounded habitAmerican Yellow-wood

Cladrastis kentuckea (lutea)--Yellow-wood

Hardiness Zones: 4 to 8
Height: 40 ft
Spread: 35 ft
Form: rounded
Type: deciduous tree
Annual Growth Rate: up to 12 inches
Flowers: White

Comments: Yellow-wood bears hanging clusters of white flowers. The flowers are followed by flat seedpods. The attractive, smooth bark can make a dramatic presentation in any yard. Yellow-wood may be grown in both high pH and acidic soils. The tree develops yellow fall color and has brittle wood that can make it prone to storm damage - place it away from houses and driveways. Removal of lower branches when the tree is young can prevent formation of a short trunk.
