Tree of the Week
Syringa reticulata--Japanese Tree Lilac
Hardiness Zones: 3 to 7
Height: 25 to 30 ft
Spread: 20 ft
Type: Small deciduous tree
Annual Growth Rate: 12 to 18 inches
Comments: Although a lilac, this member of the genus is quite different in appearance than those with which gardeners are more familiar. This is a small
to medium size shade tree. The showy white flowers, borne in early summer, are the main ornamental feature.
Deep green leaves, typical of the lilac genus, provide shade for
summer and the tree's rounded outline offers a nice addition to the
'Ivory Silk' - Large clusters of creamy-white flowers produced when the plant is still young.
