Evergreens/Conifers
We love evergreen trees - conifers in particular. This is a collection of
what we think to be the best, as well as some of the more popular trees that
we don't especially recommend. Check out the legend
to see other ways you can use these trees in your yard.
Names without links are upcoming candidates for Tree of the Week.
Legend:
Shade Tree - a leafy tree that is mainly used for its large size and
shade-providing features.
Ash alternative -
one of the shade trees recommended by MSU for use in replanting after ash
removal. Check out these and the other great shade trees we have available
for your yard.
Conifer (a tree related to the pine family) - Cone-bearing tree. Usually
evergreen, these trees provide much-needed winter color in almost every
garden. The deciduous species (those that drop needles in the fall) can be
highly ornamental.
Ornamental Tree - a species or variety that has special ornamental
characteristics - bark, flowers, needle color, shape, etc. Some species
listed below contain varieties that are quite ornamental, such as weeping
Norway Spruce.
Screening Tree - for privacy, delineating a property line, or blocking an
unsightly view. These can be combined with many other tree selections to
create a stunning border.
Christmas Tree -
conifers that we use at Trim Pines for our Michigan Snowfresh Christmas
trees
